In Cindy, Kizzy, Patrice, Troy, Troy Hul Arnold reflects on his childhood alongside his three older sisters, capturing a moment of shared identity shaped by faith, family, and place. Raised in a Seventh-day Adventist household during the 1990s, the siblings were active members of the Pathfinders and Adventurers Club—a global youth organization within the Adventist denomination dedicated to nurturing Christian values and a deep respect for the natural world.
Set in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, a recurring site of their weekend gatherings, the painting situates the four figures amid the park’s historic trees and winding toe paths. Bathed in the open air of spring or summer, the composition speaks to the innocence and structure of childhood shaped by spiritual discipline and communal tradition. Through this work, Arnold memorializes not only a personal history, but a collective one—grounded in faith, familial bonds, and the enduring presence of nature in urban life.
